Celebrating Harvest on 22nd October 2020
We have had fun learning about why Harvest is celebrated each year and how each country joins in with these celebrations.
We learnt interesting facts related to Harvest and in small groups worked together to carry out a variety of discussions based around Harvest. Click on the images below to see just 2 of the things we discussed.
We also studied some Harvest artwork and created our own piece of art that represents Harvest time. We had fun mixing paints to create the colours of Harvest.
We all enjoyed learning about why Harvest is celebrated each year. We worked hard on all the activities for our harvest innovation day. We made self portaits out of natural materials, worked on some mathematics problems, wrote haiku poems and created concept maps.

We listened to stories and looked at pictures from around the world to see how Harvest Time is celebrated. We wrote a prayer to show how thankful we are for the Harvest and all of the food we are lucky enough to have.
We learnt the poem 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow'. We had so much fun practising the actions too. You can watch us reciting our poem on our Twitter account @DafenSchool
We made our very own 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrows' too.
We explored pumpkins in our Investigation Area. We shared ideas about what the pumpkins look and feel like and made a word bank of adjectives too. Next, we collected and counted the seeds from inside the pumpkins. It was so much fun but a little messy too!
Have a look at our bird feeders. We found out about how the different seasons affect the food we can grow and harvest. We wanted to help the birds by making seed feeders to hang around the school grounds.
We were so lucky to have a Harvest Assembly from Michell Lloyd. We listened to a great story about Patch the Pumpkin and then we joined in with the actions whilst listening to one of our favourite songs. Diolch yn fawr Miss Michelle!
